DISTRICT 3 IS WHERE AUSTIN'S FUTURE IS BEING WRITTEN

Riverside, East 6th, Galindo, Govalle, St. Elmo’s, and Montopolis, Holly aren't just neighborhoods - they are living tapestries of innovation and resilience. Neha is prepared to guide our community through the unique challenges and opportunities before us:

  • Housing affordability that threatens to displace the very communities that make our district special

  • Infrastructure needs that require smart, scalable and sustainable solutions

  • Environmental protection that balances growth with our natural heritage

  • Digital divides that leave some residents behind in our increasingly connected world

  • Small business support that's essential to our district's economic vitality

  • Community preservation and stability amid rapid growth and development

Neha’s Story is an Immigrant Story
Rooted in Courage and Community

Neha knows what it costs to dream big — and she's never stopped anyway.

She has a habit of making possible what others said couldn't be done.

Neha Shah arrived in the U.S. on a student visa as a teenager, with no family or relatives here, traveling alone because her parents couldn’t afford to make the trip with her. She earned scholarships and worked campus jobs to pay her way through college, and later through getting a Masters Degree as well.

While navigating the turmoil of the 2008 job market as a foreign citizen who needed visa sponsorship to work legally, she relied on the kindness of friends - sleeping on couches for months till she got first paychecks. She dared to dream of making a difference. That’s how she went from years of visa uncertainty and building her life in a foreign country to later becoming an award-winning innovative software technology builder, bilingual children’s book author, and startup entrepreneur.

Neha grew up in 1990s India, when the country opened its economy to private investment with real promise and praise. Then she also watched those early guardrails get stripped away due to political corruption and greedy interest groups - thus derailing growth that only benefited some while bypassing many. That experience shaped her core belief: markets can be powerful tools for development, but only when paired with genuine public accountability and community protection.

As a District 3 resident, Neha has watched rents climb, small businesses disappear, and working families get pushed further east — while city incentives keep flowing to developers with no strings attached. She's seen this pattern before. Her family lives in Gurgaon, a booming city outside New Delhi that is a symbol of India's economic rise — but is also a cautionary tale about what happens when growth outpaces the public infrastructure and accountability meant to sustain it. The people of Gurgaon are still fighting to fix what was built wrong from the start. Neha doesn't want Austin to inherit the same fight.

She's running to lead Austin on the smarter path — before the cracks become irreversible, and while there’s still time to choose progress. That’s why she will vote to make sure there are no more density bonuses without guaranteed affordable units, no more corporate tax incentives without accountable community benefits, and no more city spending that can't be tracked by the public in real time.
